Royal Caribbean Plans New Headquarters Building

The Miami Herald is reporting that Royal Caribbean is planning to expand its headquarters at the Port of Miami with a new building adjacent to its current buildings on the southwest corner of Dodge Island.

The new building would boost space to enough room for 4,200 employees compared to the current 2,200. Yes, a parking garage will also be included in the project.

Not Your Grandfather's Cruise Terminal

MSC Cruises is full of surprises. First, between the time of saying they were going to build their own cruise terminal at Port Miami and the formal board action, the project doubled in size to encompass two berths to handle two megaliners at the same time.

Yesterday, at the Seatrade Global Cruise Conference in Miami, MSC unveiled the actual design for the terminal, and it's stunning.

Symphony Arrives

Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas arrived at her new home - the brand-new Terminal A in Miami - in the pre-dawn hours of Friday morning. When the world's largest cruise ship moves in, it's a visual event as you can see in the video.

Royal Caribbean Open New Miami Home

Although there was a soft opening last weekend with several ships using it, Royal Caribbean officially opened their new state-of-the-art Terminal A at Port Miami today.

It will serve as home port to Royal Caribbean International ships, including two of the largest cruise ships in the world, Symphony of the Seas and Allure of the Seas.

A Record Year

The Port of Miami posted record traffic, both in passengers and cargo, for the fiscal year, which ended September 30, 2018. While they posted records in cargo both in amounts of movements and in volume, cruise passengers were up 4.7% with 5,592,000 passengers.

The increases resulted from new ships, new lines, and longer seasons for seasonal lines.

FunDay in Miami

If you were a cruise line with a huge new ship, a new blimp and a larger-than-life sports legend who is on the payroll with the title of Chief Fun Officer, what would you do? That's right. You'd bring them all together for an afternoon of fun, and that's what Carnival Cruise Line did in Miami yesterday.

The occasion was Carnival Horizon's inaugural special two-night cruise from Miami. After a summer series of cruises from New York, the new ship has arrived in Miami, its new year round home port.

The New Center of the (Carnival) Universe

Carnival today previewed their new state-of-the-art (or beyond) Fleet Operations Center in Miami from which they monitor and interact to support any of their 26 ships worldwide.

The 35,000-square-foot facility was designed by Constant Technologies, a design firm that specializes in building operations centers, and located on an entire floor in a Category 5 hurricane-resistant building on Carnival's headquarters campus in Miami.

Norwegian Cruise Line broke ground today for their new dedicated terminal at Port Miami. The terminal was approved by the country board on April 10, and Norwegian wasted no time in moving forward. Construction will start May 1. The pressure is on because the terminal must be completed in time for the arrival of Norwegian's new ship, Norwegian Encore, in the fall of next year.

New Norwegian Terminal

Norwegian Cruise Line revealed the design this week for their new Miami terminal which, if approved by the county board, should see construction begin in May and be completed by the fall of 2019 when Norwegian Encore arrives in Miami.

Miami Becomes Record-Setter

Port Miami reports more than 5.3 million cruise passengers passed through the port in their last fiscal year (2016/2017) which ended September 30. That's not only a record for the port, but also a world record.

Readying a Home

Earlier this week we told you that Fincantieri had floated out MSC Seaside over the weekend. Now MSC and PortMiami have begun expanding and upgrading what will be the ship's new home at its Miami home port.

In a major event today, ground was broken at PortMiami today for the new construction.

This video shows a bit of the construction of MSC Seaside as well as last weekend's float out, a bit of the ship and some of the plans for the new Terminal F at PortMiami.

Royal Caribbean Expanding at Port Miami

Royal Caribbean announced plans today to build a striking new 170,000-square-foot terminal on the northeast side of Port Miami. At the same time they said one of the ships using it will be an Oasis-class ship, marking the first time one of the giant ships will be based in Miami.

Royal Caribbean Going South

It appears Royal Caribbean will expand at Port Miami by basing at least one Oasis-class ship there and constructing a terminal to accommodate it or even larger ships, should they ever be built in the future.
