A couple months ago we told you how Celebrity was enhancing 43 itineraries in the Caribbean with overnight calls. Now they are adding evening shore excursions to go along with the nighttime visits.

No Celebration on Grand Celebration

Grand Celebration, which originally (28 years ago) began life as Carnival’s Celebration, now sails two-night trips between Palm Beach and Freeport for the Bahamas Paradise Line. When it arrived back in Palm Beach this morning, a boatload of unhappy customers came with it.

There had been no air conditioning since Tuesday, and many passengers had even resorted to sleeping on deck.

Viking Star Woes Continue

Viking Ocean Cruises is modifying Viking Star’s next cruise because of the delay in leaving Tallinn due to the ship’s propulsion problem.

Originally the ship was to have turned around in Bergen on August 8. Since the repairs took longer than anticipated, the ship couldn’t get to Bergen by August 8. Instead, it will meet passengers in Copenhagen on August 10.

Mitsubishi Delays AIDAprima again

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has again notified AIDA they won’t be able to meet the delivery date for AIDAprima, and instead of entering service in October from Dubai, AIDA is now planning for the ship to enter service in April 2016 from Hamburg.

This, of course, changes AIDA’s inaugural programs again.

The Voice Goes to Sea

When Princess says you can “come back new,” they now have a new vehicle to propel you to that “newness.” You can come back a star.

Are you a fan of “The Voice?” Princess can also give you a chance to know what it’s like to be on the show (at least a version of it).

This fall and winter, Princess Cruises will be giving passengers the opportunity to participate and become “The Voice of the Ocean.”

Norwegian to Return to Asia and Beyond

Norwegian Cruise Line is expanding the horizons to which their customers can cruise in 2016 and going to parts of the world the line hasn’t visited for years. The new programs will take Norwegian ships to Asia, Australia, India and South America.

At the same time, the line is juggling some ships’ home ports in the Caribbean and Europe to provide some new options.

Broken Already

Viking Ocean Cruises’ four-month-old ship, Viking Star, is in Tallinn (Estonia) where it has been since last Thursday with a propulsion problem and waiting for a part.

The ship had been on a Baltic cruise since July 25, and it was scheduled to end in Bergen on August 8.
