Viking Sea Broken Until Further Notice

Viking Ocean Cruises seems to have bad luck with new ships. Viking Sea, which just entered service in May, left Barcelona last Friday for Toulon when it had some kind of unspecified engine failure and was able to return to Barcelona at a very slow speed and dock. And there it sits.

Passengers said they were told they were welcome to stay aboard until January 8 and enjoy Barcelona, or they were free to disembark to return home. Passengers said they would be offered compensation, but a specific package did not seem to be immediately detailed.

London Celebrates the Arrival of a Viking

Viking’s second ship was christened yesterday in London, an unusual location for such an event, but Viking Sea at just 47,800-gross tons, had no trouble navigating the Thames, and became the largest ship ever named in the British capital.

The ship was christened last night in the Thames by Karine Hagen, Viking's senior vice president and daughter of the line’s founder, Torstein Hagen.

Fincantieri delivers Viking Sea

Viking Ocean Cruises took delivery of their second ship, the 48,700-ton Viking Sea, today at Fincantieri’s Ancona yard. The ship is a duplicate of the first ship, Viking Star, which launched last April.

Fincantieri Floats Out Viking Sea

Viking Ocean Cruises’ Viking Sea is one step closer to delivery today. The float out process began yesterday for the line’s second ship at Fincantieri’s Ancona yard.

This step marks the end of construction, the first time the ship touches water, and the beginning of the interior finishing process.

Carnival Corp shuffled executives at the top of the UK Corporate structure, moving up two key people and adding another to fill the empty office.
   Carnival Corp announced this morning that David Dingle will move up from CEO of Carnival UK to become the chairman of Carnival UK. At the same time David Noyes is being promoted from executive vice president of operations to fill the CEO position. He will have operating responsibility for the UK-based P&O and Cunard brands.

* Fincantieri Starts Work on Another
Fincantieri cut the first steel today at their Marghera yard for Viking Sea which is the second ship they are building for Viking Ocean Cruises.
