New Interior Designers Give Mein Schiff 2 a New Look

When Mein Schiff 2 is delivered to TUI next spring, it's going to have a new look in many areas.

Two areas that will definitely have a different look and wow passengers are the Day & Night Bistro and the Schaubar ("Show Bar"). For Mein Schiff 2, award-winning German designer Werner Aisslinger has created new designs for both.

TUI Goes Bigger with New Order

TUI Cruises and Fincantieri announced a new order today for two ships that will be about 50,000 tons larger than their current ships, and they will be LNG-powered.

Things Are Floating in Turku Too

Just a month after Meyer Turku delivered Mein Schiff 1 to TUI Cruises, the yard floated out its sister, Mein Schiff 2, today.

Always a special moment in the life of a ship, the first water touched the hull when the floodgates were opened and 300 million liters of water flooded the dry dock.

Meyer Turku delivered Mein Schiff 1 to TUI Cruises (the partnership with Royal Caribbean) today at the Finnish yard. This is the fifth ship the yard has built to TUI.

Nothing Is Simple

Yesterday we told you that Royal Caribbean and CTrip were shutting down their joint venture cruise line SkySea Cruise Line, and the ship, the former Celebrity Century was being sold to TUI for use in their Marella brand. Seems simple, but nothing is simple in the cruise industry.

Next Two TUI Ships Pass Construction Milestones

It was a busy day at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku (Finland). It was just as busy for TUI executives who were in town for the events concerning their next two ships.

Meyer was laying the keel for Mein Schiff 1, and they were cutting the first steel for Mein Schiff 2.

Back to the Beginning

Meyer Turku cut the first steel for TUI Cruises Mein Schiff 1 yesterday at their yard in Turku, Finland.

Yes, TUI just put Mein Schiff 5 into service, but the steel was cut for Mein Schiff 1. Just as other cruise lines reuse favorite names, apparently TUI intends to reuse favorite numbers. The line is replacing both Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 2 with ships of the same name, and the originals will be handed off to TUI's UK brand, Thomson Cruises.

Early Arrival

Meyer Turku delivered Mein Schiff 5 to TUI cruises on Monday, ten days ahead of schedule. The 99,800-ton vessel will leave Turku (Finland) Tuesday afternoon headed for Kiel, where it will arrive on June 23.

Six and Counting

Meyer Turku laid the keel today for Mein Schiff 6. While it may look like Mein Schiff 5, there are significant differences “under the hood.” This is the fourth ship constructed by Meyer Turku for the line, which is a partnership between TUI Travel and Royal Caribbean.

The block put into place today is the first of 77 that will comprise the ship. Meyer Turku CEO Jan Meyer noted in his remarks that it will now take only seven months for the construction work to be completed, and then the yard can move to the outfitting and testing of the systems.
