The month-old Seabourn Encore broke its aft moorings Sunday afternoon (local time) while it was docked at Timaru (NZ). Sudden strong winds (up to 45 knots) then carried the ship's stern a couple hundred feet so that it allided with the cargo ship Milburn Carrier II and then came to rest against the wharf.
There were no injuries on either vessel.
Details appeared in the February 13 edition of Cruise News Daily. Cell phone video of the incident is below.

Checking Things Out
It's only a few days until delivery of Seabourn Encore, and Carnival Chairman Micky Arison was spotted aboard yesterday checking things out.
One of the places he saw was the recently-announced restaurant named Sushi. It's Seabourn's first dedicated sushi restaurant. (What are the chances?)

Seabourn Encore Meets Water
Seabourn Encore touched water for the first time today in Marghera, Italy, a major event in the building of a ship because, for the first time it is doing what it was built to do - floating. Once the drydock fills with water, the new ship will be towed to an outfitting dock in the Fincantieri yard where the interior will be completed over the next six or seven months.
The water began to flow today when Marnie Tihany, the wife of the ship’s interior designer and today, the ship’s madrina, cut a cord which allowed the ceremonial bottle of champagne to smash against the ship’s bow.
Details appeared in the March 4 edition of Cruise News Daily.

Why Would You Want to Leave?
Occasionally, some accommodations come along on a ship that you have to think, that if you bought it, there would be no reason to ever leave it. A Wintergarden Suite aboard Seabourn Encore is one of them. (There are two planned aboard the new ship, which will be delivered later this year.)

The 41,700-ton vessel is a progression of the Odyssey-class built by T. Mariotti, but it will carry 600 passengers, 150 more than the Odyssey-class, and have one additional deck and expanded public spaces.
The complete story appeared in the September 15 edition of Cruise News Daily.

Showing Off the Suites
Seabourn’s latest, Seabourn Encore, is still a bit more than a year away (entering service in late 2016), but Seabourn is ready to unveil the suites.
Why do cruise lines always show suites when most people travel in standard accommodations? In the case of Seabourn Encore, suites are all they have. There are five types of suites on the ship. The ones that intrigue us the most are the Veranda Suites. These are the “standard cabin” on this ship, but make no mistake - they are more than a “cabin.” The Veranda Suites are what the vast majority of passengers aboard Seabourn Encore will have booked.

Seabourn Encore’s Signature Lounge Details Revealed
Seabourn Encore is set to be delivered at the end of next year, but Seabourn is already releasing some of the design details of the major public spaces. Making them a little more noteworthy is that the interiors are being designed by noted hospitality designer Adam Tihany.
The latest to be revealed is The Club which will be the central lounge for the small (40,350-ton) vessel. But it will be more than a lounge.
