Chantiers Delivers MSC Virtuosa

MSC Cruises' fleet grew by another ship today (to 17) when the line took delivery of MSC Virtuosa at the Chantiers yard at Saint Nazaire (in northwest France). The 181,000-ton ship is a sister to MSC Grandiosa and a progression from MSC Meraviglia and MSC Bellissima that's 52.5 feet longer.

Chantiers Lays Keel for MSC World Europa

The cruise industry may not be sailing, but it is continuing to build for the day when it will be back as robust as it was. Chantiers de l'Atlantique laid the keel for a giant World-class ship for MSC Cruises today at their Saint-Nazaire yard.

The 200,000+-ton MSC World Europa will be more than just a huge ship. It will utilize some of the latest green technology as well as testing some cutting-edge concepts for the future.

Yet Another MSC Ship Reaches a Construction Milestone

Over the weekend, Chantiers floated out MSC Virtuosa at their Saint Nazaire yard. It marks the line's third major shipbuilding milestone within a month.

MSC Virtuosa is the second Meraviglia-Plus ship. (The just-christened MSC Grandiosa was the first.) It is scheduled for delivery in October 2020.

Wonder of the Seas Begins to Take Shape

As Chantiers de l'Atlantique laid the keel for Royal Caribbean's fifth Oasis-class ship in Saint-Nazaire (France) today, halfway around the world, Royal Caribbean was announcing details about the ship and its deployment at a trade conference in China.

The ship will be named Wonder of the Seas, and when it enters service in 2021, it will be dedicated, at least initially, to the Chinese-sourced market and homeported at Shanghai.

Chantiers Begins Work on Oasis 5

Chantiers de l'Atlantique cut the first steel today for the fifth Oasis-class ship for Royal Caribbean. The steel plate was cut at the builder's Saint-Nazaire (France) yard.

RCCL Orders another Edge for Celebrity

If you liked Celebrity Edge when it debuted last fall, there are going to be five of the technologically advanced ships five years from now, because today, Chantiers de l'Alantique said Royal Caribbean ordered a fifth Edge-class ship for Celebrity.

The French yard said the vessel is scheduled for delivery in the fall of 2024.

Chantiers Delivers MSC Bellissima

Chantiers de l'Atlantique delivered MSC Bellissima to MSC Cruises today at their Saint-Nazaire yard, and tonight it's making its way toward Southampton where it will arrive early Friday morning in anticipation of its gala naming ceremony on Saturday.

Have you ever wondered what actually happens when a ship is delivered? It's probably not what you think. Prior to that moment when the half-billion-dollar piece of equipment officially changes ownership, the ship was completed by the builder, the cruise line has checked it over in detail and agrees it was completed to their satisfaction and they have provided payment to the yard.  Then comes the moment of the actual transfer, and thanks to MSC, they gave us a look behind the scenes today at the moment when all that was agreed to and ownership of MSC Bellissima was transferred. Royal Caribbean Orders 6th Oasis-Class Ship

Royal Caribbean Cruise Ltd said today they have ordered a sixth Oasis-class vessel from Chantiers de l'Atlantique for delivery in the fall of 2023.

MSC Grandiosa Floats Out

Chantiers de l'Atlantique floated out MSC Grandiosa today at their Saint-Nazaire yard.

MSC Grandiosa will be the third ship of the Meraviglia design and the first of the Meraviglia-plus class. (If you are marking your score cards, the first two Meraviglia-class were MSC Meraviglia and MSC Bellissima.)

“Edging” Toward Florida

Celebrity Cruises reports that Celebrity Edge left the Chantiers yard at Saint-Nazaire, France on Sunday en route to her new home port at Terminal 25 at Port Everglades, near Ft. Lauderdale.

The new ship is expected to arrive on Monday, November 19.

Double Event at Chantiers for Celebrity

Chantiers de l'Atlantique delivered Celebrity Edge to Celebrity Cruises at their Saint-Nazaire (France) yard today following a 23-month construction process of the prototype vessel.

What could make the event bigger and better? The start of construction of the next ship, so Chantiers laid the keel for Celebrity Apex there in the yard's dry dock. The lucky coin was placed in the dry dock before the 762-ton block was lowered into place. (Lucky for everyone except the coin.)

Celebrity Reveals Edge's Grand Plaza

It's less than three months before Celebrity's “transformational” Edge enters service, and the line is continuing to reveal aspects of the ship. At the end of last week, it was The Grand Plaza, the “heart and soul” of the ship, designed by Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku.
