Cruise News Daily Headlines for May 27, 2014

* Agreement after the Fact
Royal Caribbean said today they have hammered out an agreement with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to develop the next phase of Cape Liberty Cruise port at Bayonne (NJ) which will involve building a state-of-the-art cruise terminal needed to accommodate the next generation of the line’s ships, the Quantum-class. Never mind that they need the facility to be ready by the time Quantum of the Seas arrives there this November, so they already started construction months ago.

* Another Child Found Unconscious in Ship’s Pool
It has happened again. European media is reporting another child was found drowning in a cruise ship pool this afternoon.

* For Sale: One Slightly Used Propeller
The SS United States Conservancy is running out of money. It costs them almost $55,000 a month to keep the classic liner SS United States in storage while they try to find a viable use for the ship. Over the years, they have raised literally millions of dollars from private sources (they receive no government funding), but that money is drying up, and to continue to keep the ship laid up, they are selling one of their most prized possessions - and they have to do it fast!

Cruise News Daily Headlines for January 21, 2014

* Another New Ship for Seabourn - Bigger Still
Carnival finalized the order today for a fourth new ship for the Seabourn brand. The action firms up the order prefaced by the letter of intent that we reported last fall.
   The new ship will be built by Fincantieri at an unnamed yard, and while this ship will be similar to the three Odyssey-class vessels added to the fleet since 2009, this ship will be significantly larger.

* Free Internet for Past Passengers
Beginning this fall, Crystal plans to offer a very liberal internet allowance to all passengers who have sailed with them before, probably making internet free for most passengers.

* Uh oh. Trouble in Bayonne Could Mean Trouble for QuantumConstruction on the new cruise terminal designed for Quantum of the Seas at Bayonne’s Cape Liberty Cruise Port has been halted due to a local controversy regarding the 9-11 memorial at the port.

Cruise News Daily Headlines for July 24, 2013

* In for the Long Term
This should give hope to those communities with brand-new cruise terminals sitting idle just waiting for a cruise line to call them home. After being finished and sitting unused for four years, the Bayport Cruise Terminal at Houston is finally becoming operational this winter when Princess and Norwegian Cruise Line will begin operating from there. But the big news today is that Princess has just signed for two more years.

* Bigger Ship Needs Bigger and Better Terminal
Quantum of the Seas’ arrival at Cape Liberty next year, carrying more than 4,100 passengers necessitates a bigger, state-of-the-art terminal for a state-of-the-art ship, so Royal Caribbean has asked the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for permission to redevelop a part of the port. The Board of Commissioners granted that permission at their meeting today.
