Carnival Dream Update

Carnival reports that life quickly got back to normal after the water line break on Thursday. Crews worked quickly to replace wet carpeting in the corridor and in a few of the staterooms. They also immediately started drying carpeting that did not need to be replaced.

The break occurred about 6pm and by midnight most passengers were back in their staterooms.

Water, Water Everywhere

About a hundred passengers aboard New Orleans-based Carnival Dream are wringing out their socks today after a pipe burst Thursday evening on Deck 9 flooding about 50 staterooms with ankle-deep water. Videos posted online show water pouring from a wall at ceiling height. Carnival says that luckily, it was clean water from the fire suppression system.

The Pig & Anchor Has Another Sister

Following two weeks away from New Orleans, Carnival Dream has returned after a dry dock that created a number of new dining venues and bars aboard the 130,000-ton ship.

One of the most notable is a new branch of Guy Fieri's Pig & Anchor Barbeque Smokehouse. It is just the third branch of the restaurant to open.

Video: Carnival Infested by Chipmunks

You are either going to love this or hate it, but the TV ad is now airing for "Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked" which is opening nationally later this month. If you are a Carnival fan, there's no mistaking that Carnival is involved in this with probably a case of ultimate product placement.

Medevac from Carnival Dream

A 49-year-old woman was medevaced from Carnival Dream this morning as the ship was returning to Port Canaveral from St. Maarten. The US Coast Guard says they got the call when the ship was 80 miles north of Cat Island in the Bahamas. It was handled by an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Clearwater (Florida) that was operating out of a base in the Bahamas. They met the ship and hoisted the woman from Carnival Dream’s aft deck in what they consider a routine operation. In the photo above, it looks like most of the passengers turned out to watch the delicate ballet between the moving ship and helicopter flying overhead which the Coast Guard considers "routine." The photo shows the patient being hoisted to the helicopter just below the door. (Passengers were kept a safe distance away in the ship's central pool area.) The photo was taken by a CND reader who is a passenger aboard the ship. It makes you realize what an extraordinary job the men and women of the Coast Guard do every day, but pass it off as "routine."
