More than a Pre-Cruise Hotel, It's a Voyage and Tour

Cunard has new Voyage and Tour packages available on select Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria sailings that include a pre-cruise land package in the port of embarkation.

This seems to be more than a pre-cruise hotel, because it is for several nights and includes some tours or events in the city, but differs from some other tour packages offered by some lines in that they are only one city and involve no overland touring.

Way, Way up North

Silversea's Silver Explorer is exploring way up north in Alaska. Actually it's sailing 19-night round trip from Nome, and it's been in the Russian Arctic. But on Friday, when a 35-year-old man aboard the ship began having cardiac problems, the ship moved within range of the US Coast Guard when they requested assistance.

The rendezvous point that was chosen was 150 miles northwest of Kotzebue, Alaska, in order to be within range of the MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter which was based at Kodiak.
