Look! Up in the Sky!

It's been seen above the South and on the West Coast, and even Arizona and Las Vegas. Now it's coming to New York City, New Jersey and Philadelphia. (Ben Franklin would be shocked.) Yes, the Carnival Airship is making its Big Apple debut.

The visit is to promote the New York debut of the transformed Carnival Sunrise, which will be officially named at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal on Thursday.

Unusual Even for Las Vegas

A bride, a groom, a flamboyant officiant and an Elvis impersonator are all normal elements of a Las Vegas wedding, but this couple wanted something a bit different, so when Carnival Cruise Line offered their blimp, it was a match made in heaven.

California, Get Your Cameras Ready, and Look Up!

The Carnival Airship, famous in the Southeast after tying up traffic as it flew over major cities earlier this year, is going to California in January to promote the impending arrival of Carnival Panorama on the West Coast.

Like its swing through the Southeast, Californians who look up and snap a photo of the Carnival Airship, they could win prizes, including a Carnival cruise.

He's Got a Ticket to Ride

Rank has its privilege. Carnival Corp CEO Arnold Donald got to go for a special ride last week. Carnival brought the new Carnival AirShip (a/k/a blimp) to Miami for the Miami inaugural of Carnival Horizon. As part of the Miami launch, it circled the ship a number of times, entertaining passengers and Miami residents. How often do you actually see a blimp right above you, let alone one painted like a cruise ship?

How often do you get to ride in one? While the AirShip was visiting Miami as part of its own inaugural tour of the Southeastern United States, Carnival CEO Arnold Donald got to go for a ride. During the flight, the pilot took him over local landmarks and beaches at altitudes of up to 1,000 feet.

FunDay in Miami

If you were a cruise line with a huge new ship, a new blimp and a larger-than-life sports legend who is on the payroll with the title of Chief Fun Officer, what would you do? That's right. You'd bring them all together for an afternoon of fun, and that's what Carnival Cruise Line did in Miami yesterday.

The occasion was Carnival Horizon's inaugural special two-night cruise from Miami. After a summer series of cruises from New York, the new ship has arrived in Miami, its new year round home port.

They Bought a WHAT?

There was a time a few years ago when if Carnival Cruise Line told me they had bought a blimp, it would seem perfectly normal. But Carnival hasn't been quite as much “fun” in the last few years under later management.

So when the Fun Ship Cruise Line announced plans for their new 128-foot-long AirShip to tour the Southeast over the next month, I said, “You're kidding, right?” To which they answered, “No, the whole Southeast.” “No, I meant about the blimp. You really bought a blimp?” Yes, they did, and now we're back to the Carnival I loved where I never knew what to expect from their marketing.

The airship was already seen in the skies over Memphis today at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Six Annual Day of Play.
