Azamara Adds European Rail Option

Azamara is now extending their “Destination Immersion” concept of slower travel from their itineraries and ports of call to getting to or from the ship via a luxurious rail connection aboard the Venice-Simplon Orient-Express.

The pre- or post-cruise option will be offered next year to passengers boarding or disembarking their Azamara cruise at Venice.

What the Tourism Minister Has Forgotten

There was an interesting article in The Bahamas' Tribune 242 on Friday in which the Bahamas' Minister of Tourism, Dionisio D'Aguilar, talks about how the cruise lines “make all the money, and we have nothing."

That school of thought may say lots about why the Bahamas - or at least the major ports - may lose much of their cruise business in the coming years and why they are not a favorite among cruise passengers, many opting to stay aboard when their ship docks.

Costa neoClassica Leaves Fleet - Costa Victoria Leaves China

Costa said that one of its longest-serving ships, Costa neoClassica will leave the fleet on March 10, 2018 when it finishes its series of cruises between India and the Maldives.

Costa Victoria will leave China, where it has mainly sailed since 2012, to return to the Mediterranean to maintain capacity there during the summer of 2018.

Staying Put for Now

Carnival Cruise Line confirmed they have signed a contract extension with the City of Mobile to continue to homeport Carnival Fantasy at the city through December 2018.

The one-year extension (the current contract expires in December 2017) is actually an option  in the current contract that is being picked up.

Galveston Wants to Swat Drones

The Houston Chronicle reports that the Port of Galveston is considering technology for their cruise terminals that will detect drones flying over the building and ships and help identify the operator of the drones.

Another Line Benefitting from Bermuda Registry

Cunard's three ships are all registered in Bermuda, and as a result, due to the recent Supreme Court ruling there, same-sex couples can now legally marry on Cunard ships.

As a result, Cunard has just booked their first same-sex wedding at sea.

Now, Marriage for Everyone on P&O

Weddings at sea have been a popular way to get married for Britons ever since P&O made them available when they switched their registry to Bermuda for the majority of their fleet. Now P&O is set to become the first British line to conduct same sex marriages at sea beginning in January.

The US Coast Guard medevaced a 26-year-old man off Carnival Dream Sunday about three hours after it had left New Orleans, but there was no helicopter spectacle involved. More and more we're seeing medical evacuations performed by boat.
