Viking Orion Christened and Contains a Difference

Viking Ocean Cruises' fifth ship, Viking Orion, was christened yesterday in the Italian port of Livorno by its godmother, former NASA astronaut Dr. Anna Fisher.

The 47,800-ton ship was named Orion in recognition of her work on the NASA's Orion exploration vehicle project. There was also a surprise onboard in connection with her work in space.

Fincantieri Does It a Fifth Time

Fincantieri has delivered Viking Orion, the fifth ship to Viking Ocean Cruises at the builder's Ancona yard.

Like its sisters, it is 47,800 gross tons and has 465 staterooms and suites.

Viking to Lack Spirit

Viking Ocean Cruises announced that Dr Anna Fisher will be the godmother of Viking's fifth ship, now to be named Viking Orion, which will debut in July.

Dr Fisher is a chemist, emergency room physician and recently retired NASA astronaut, one of the “original six” women accepted into the NASA astronaut program in 1978.
