Going Beyond

Celebrity Cruises revealed many of the design elements of Celebrity Beyond, the first of the evolution of the Edge-class (actually the third in the class) which will debut on April 27, 2022.

The first, and shorter video below, takes you through many of the public areas - outdoors and in - and some of the suites and their private areas in the resort-within-a-ship. The second video is a talk with Celebrity Cruises President and &CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo and the designers about their designs on the ship.

An X-tra Special Welcome Home

In this video, Celebrity Edge's captain, Kate McCue, explains the planning that went into the special welcome for the new Celebrity Apex when it arrived at the anchorage earlier this month in the Bahamas with its sister ships. After weeks of planning, the ships did a special dance, a series of complex nautical maneuvers that could only be accomplished (safely) with the technology aboard today's modern ships.

Welcome Home - Almost

A Bottle of Champagne Would Have Been in Order

If they had been sailing on Tuesday, they would have opened a chilled magnum of champagne delivered by a masked waiter properly attired in white rubber gloves. Tuesday was Celebrity Cruises' 30th anniversary!

To celebrate, Celebrity produced the video below showing some of Celebrity's milestones.

Celebrity Xpedition Grounded

Local media in Ecuador reported that the 2,300-ton Celebrity Xpedition ran aground on a sandbar in the Galapagos Tuesday afternoon about 5:40pm. While there doesn't appear to be damage to the ship, passengers had to be removed from the ship to refloat it.

Celebrity Flora Will Leave Just a Tiny Footprint in the Galapagos

Celebrity's megayacht, custom designed for service in the Galapagos Islands, Celebrity Flora, finally arrived in Ecuador after a month-long transit from the shipyard in the Netherlands and was officially named today. The event revolved around the ship's eco-friendliness, and to highlight that, the ship's godmother was environmental advocate and former World Wildlife Fund International president Yolanda Kakabadse.

The complete story appeared in the June 24 edition of Cruise News Daily.

Below is some b-roll video which will give you a look around the ship, inside and out.

Celebrity Flora Well Connected to Galapagos Environment

Celebrity Flora is only a little more than two months away from introduction in the Galapagos, and Celebrity is already busy forming relationships that connect the small ship to the Galapagos. Since it involves the Galapagos, it's only natural those relationships are then connected to nature and the environment.

The relationships Celebrity announced today even included the ship's godmother.

RCCL Orders another Edge for Celebrity

If you liked Celebrity Edge when it debuted last fall, there are going to be five of the technologically advanced ships five years from now, because today, Chantiers de l'Alantique said Royal Caribbean ordered a fifth Edge-class ship for Celebrity.

The French yard said the vessel is scheduled for delivery in the fall of 2024.

The Farthest Outpost

Although you don't hear much about it, at least not on an ongoing basis, Celebrity continues to constantly cruise in the Galapagos Islands. You'll hear more about it later this year when their new mega-yacht Celebrity Flora goes into service and gets positioned there, but for now they have just set their 2021 program not only with Celebrity Flora but also with the modernized Celebrity Xpedition, and it promises to be their best season yet, according to the line.

Into the New Millennium

Can anybody remember the turn of the millennium when we were all worried about Y2K? And then to mark the new millennium, Celebrity Cruises named their brand-new ship (and the first of the revolutionary new class) Celebrity Millennium. Can you believe that was 19 years ago?

At the end of last week Celebrity Millennium left the Sembawang Shipyard in Singapore and reentered service after a month-long transformation that updated the ship and made it into the stunner it was when was delivered at the turn of the millennium. It was the first of the class to undergo the Celebrity Revolution, a half-billion-dollar program to modernize the line's ships and give them the types of features found on the line's newest ship, Celebrity Edge.

Flora Floats

It may be tiny, but it floats. Last Saturday, Celebrity Cruises' newest ship, Celebrity Flora, took to the water for the first time when it was launched at the Shipyard De Hoop in the Netherlands.

Because it's so small, just 5,739 gross-tons, the ship was built on land (instead of in a drydock) and slid down rails into the water, affording us what is a rather unusual sight these days. Ironically, it's one of the largest vessels De Hoop has built in the last decade.

Celebrity Edge Named in Ft. Lauderdale

Celebrity Edge officially became part of the Celebrity fleet tonight when it was named at Port Everglades by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai.

Tonight Celebrity's first new ship in six years is sailing to the Bahamas with probably the cleanest bow of any new ship, because Celebrity broke a custom-made 18-liter bottle of Badoit French mineral water against Edge's “Parabolic Ultra Bow” rather than the traditional champagne.

Dinner and a Show Right on Your Table

Celebrity Edge is about to enter service, and it's full of technology and wonderful things to eat. The two are combined in Le Petite Chef, who appears nightly in the Grand Bistro, in one of the more innovative restaurant offerings. (Le Grand Bistro is also open for breakfast and lunch in a more “take out” format, while the little chef sleeps in.)

The show takes place right on your tabletop between courses thanks to a partnership with TableMation Studios. It's like nothing you've ever seen before at sea.

Fresh from the Factory

Celebrity Edge arrived at Port Everglades on Sunday, with 1,400 crew members aboard, directly from Saint-Nazaire, France and the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard, 4000 miles away.

During the 15-day crossing, with only the crew, the ship made calls in the Azores and the Bahamas.

Glamping Goes to Sea

Whoever first put the words “Glamourous” and “Camping” together never even envisioned this. But you can now spend the night, camping in luxury, under the stars on a ship in the Galapagos Islands.

When Celebrity's ship, custom-designed for Galapagos cruising, Celebrity Flora, debuts, you will be able to camp out in luxury under the stars (complete with a naturalist to point out the constellations) with an elaborate dinner served to you, an extra-comfy bed and even breakfast brought to your bed the next morning - all in those plush cabanas near the pool you can rent in the daytime to comfortably relax and nosh in.

Double Event at Chantiers for Celebrity

Chantiers de l'Atlantique delivered Celebrity Edge to Celebrity Cruises at their Saint-Nazaire (France) yard today following a 23-month construction process of the prototype vessel.

What could make the event bigger and better? The start of construction of the next ship, so Chantiers laid the keel for Celebrity Apex there in the yard's dry dock. The lucky coin was placed in the dry dock before the 762-ton block was lowered into place. (Lucky for everyone except the coin.)
