Overboard from Amsterdam
A 35-year-old crew member from Holland America's Amsterdam was reported overboard Thursday evening while the ship was in Sitka Sound (Alaska).

The FBI arrested a 31-year-old man from New Jersey whom they allege took a photo up the skirt of a 13-year-old girl, and possibly others, on a cruise ship that was sailing from Bayonne to Bermuda last month.

An Hour with Royal Caribbean
Royal Caribbean had their quarterly conference call today to discuss their earnings with financial analysts, and as usual, there were some interesting comments which weren't directly financial.
There was an important trend we spotted, as well as a couple interesting minor news items, like Royal Caribbean trademarking (literally) a new term. There were also a few just plain interesting observations by RCCL executives.

Signed and Sealed and Making First Plans
Royal Caribbean closed on their acquisition of two-thirds stake in Silversea Cruises yesterday, making the luxury brand part of the Royal Caribbean family.

That Won't Suck
On Monday, Norwegian Cruise Holdings announced a plan to reduce the use of single-use plastics and eliminate the use of plastic straws by August 2018.
The plan applies to all 26 ships in their fleet across all three brands (Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises) and both island destinations (Great Stirrup Cay and Harvest Caye).

Good-bye Triumph, Hel-lo Sunshine
In March, Carnival Triumph will enter dry dock in Cadiz (Spain), and two months later, after $200 million worth of work, it will emerge with such an extensive makeover, that Carnival says it deserves a new name, Carnival Sunrise.
When Carnival Sunrise enters service at the end of April, it will do so with all of Carnival's latest features, newest branded restaurants, lounges, and “fun” venues, along with completely redecorated staterooms.

Sky Princess Details Emerge
The launch of Sky Princess is still a little over a year away (October 2019), but already Princess is beginning to fill in their fans on features of the new ship.
One of the major ones revealed today is the addition of “Sky Suites” to the Sky Deck.

Polar Bear Attacks Cruise Line Guard
A guard from Hapag-Lloyd's Bremen shot and killed a polar bear who was attacking another guard on Saturday on a northern Norwegian archipelago in the Sjuoyane Islands. No passengers were yet ashore.
The guard who was mauled sustained injuries to his head but was responsive when airlifted to a hospital, and is now in stable condition.
